USING YOUR POSITION TO SERVE GOD – Pastor Mrs. Mojibade Ekuma
Every child of God is supposed to Excel in his/her place of work. We believers are born to reign and rule in life. God expects us to give illumination to our generation as light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16). We must know how to operate and make progress despite the devices of the devil to enslave us in our places of work.
The greatest challenge to many christian is the ignorance of the purpse of our calling to operate where we are. No position should be seen as ordinary or extra ordinary. Whatever our position, it should be seen as great oportunity to carry God’s presence to the dying world.
Interestingly, when God met Peter at his place of work(seaside) fishing, He called him and declared a higher purpose to him. He said “I will make you fishers of men”. This is still what God is asking believers to do, go and desciple men wherever you go; use your office to fish, use your business to fish. Fishing for men is easier than literal fishing. you can fish for men everywhere. Men are everywhere- at schools, hospitals, markets, palaces, courts etc. Mordecai told Esther in the book of Esther , to discover and actualize God’s purpose for taking her to the palace. when she did, she was a blessing to her nation and she wn a crown in heaven. There is a purpose for every life. None of us is a mistake and our positions are part of the big picture. Jesus called unlearned men like Peter, a lawyer like Paul, a medical doctor like Luke, an army general like the centurion, rich men like Joseph of Arimathea. Ring David served God with his position as Ring, he was a general in the army of Israel, yet a priest, a man after God’s heart.
All the men mentioned used their positions of honour to serve God and willed influence on people while directing them to God. Daniel was a good ambassador of God, even though he was in a strange land. He rose to be a civil/public officer or commissioner. Yet he was a prophet to the kings. He remained in government service throughout the reigns of the Babylonian kings and Cyrus the Persian. Daniel’s story paints a picture of a seasoned public officer committed to his God, his prayer life and his job.
Daniel knew how to publicly acknowledge God (Dan 2: 27-28). Daniel knew how to deal with political principalities and powers through prayers (Dan. 4: 17-19). He was fear less to talk about his God even to kings. And he was bold and he used his position to do exploits (Dan. 8: 32). Daniel used prayers to solve many intricate and complex administrative and political problems (Dan.
6: 1-4). In spite of all his steadfastness to the things of God, he was not slothful but diligent, intelligent, carrying God’s Spirit to unravel spiritual secrets.
God wants you to be His ambassador in the place you are now. You can become the pastor of your work-place. God does not want your spare time or your part-time, but your full devotions unto Him whether as a teacher, a doctor, a banker, etc, carry your God to your workplace. Establish an altar there, let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Mtt. 5: 14-16)
